A tragic natural calamity struck Uttarakhand's Almora district where a massive landslide caused a residential building to collapse in the Someshwar police station area of Wadyuda village. The disaster resulted in the deaths of three individuals who were trapped under heavy debris. As soon as local authorities received information about the calamity, rescue teams rushed to the site. Personnel from the State Disaster Response Force, district police, and fire services swung into action to conduct an intensive search and rescue operation, eventually recovering the bodies of the three victims. Meanwhile, another occupant who was sleeping in an outer room managed to escape unhurt. Following the tragedy, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took to X to express his heartfelt condolences.
Rescue Teams Trek on Foot After Debris Blocks Roads
According to reports, authorities received an alert in the morning that a house had collapsed in Wadyuda village within the Someshwar jurisdiction, trapping residents underneath. Acting swiftly, an SDRF team led by Sub-Inspector Pankaj Dangwal departed from the Sariyapani post toward the disaster site. However, reaching the location proved to be a challenging task for the personnel as debris had blocked the roadway approximately 03 kilometers away from the destination. Undeterred, the SDRF personnel carried essential rescue equipment and walked the remaining distance on foot to reach the affected area.
Three Bodies Recovered While One Resident Survives
Upon arriving at the scene, the SDRF unit coordinated with local residents, fire services, and district police to execute a thorough rescue operation. The concerted efforts led to the recovery of three bodies from beneath the rubble. The deceased were identified as 42-year-old Prema Devi, 19-year-old Kalpana Arya, and 18-year-old Manish Kumar. In contrast, a man named Gulab Ram escaped safely because he was sleeping in an outer room at the time of the collapse. Local police have taken custody of the bodies and are conducting further legal procedures.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami shared his sorrow over the incident through a post on X. He stated that the loss of lives due to heavy rainfall and landslides in Wadyuda village of Someshwar in Almora is extremely painful. He prayed to the Almighty to grant a place to the departed souls at His feet and provide strength to the bereaved families to bear this profound loss.
