A deeply distressing incident unfolded in the Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh, where an entire family belonging to a panchayat raj department assistant engineer attempted collective suicide by jumping into the Godavari River. The tragic event resulted in the death of 61-year-old engineer Thillapudi Nookaraju, while local fishermen managed to rescue his 10-year-old grandson Kartikeya while he was afloat in the water. Local law enforcement authorities are currently searching the river currents to recover the bodies of Nookaraju's 58-year-old wife Meena and their 38-year-old daughter Kovvuri Soujanya.
Incriminating Notes Found Near the Abandoned Car
The tragic case took a sensational turn when investigating police officers recovered letters left behind inside a car parked near the spot of the incident. A note written by Soujanya leveled grave accusations of severe harassment, blackmail, and attempts to force religious conversion against shooting coach Shaik Sadiq Khan. Soujanya stated in the letter that Sadiq Khan had acquired her property documents, mobile phone, bank locker keys, and other vital details, and was continuously threatening the entire family with death.
Warning Sent to District Authorities Before the Act
Before taking the extreme step, engineer Nookaraju had also addressed a letter to the district collector and the superintendent of police, which he shared on WhatsApp with his colleagues and close acquaintances. According to the note, following the death of Soujanya's husband Jagadeesh Reddy, Sadiq Khan had attempted to get close to the family under the guise of offering help. When the family started rejecting his interference and wrongful activities, he resorted to issuing threats and extorting their money and jewelry.
Separate Murder Case Registered Over Husband Death
Another major twist emerged when Soujanya's father-in-law Bhaskar Reddy lodged a formal police complaint alleging that his son Jagadeesh Reddy had not died of natural causes, but was instead murdered by Sadiq Khan who administered a poisonous injection to him. Acting on this complaint, law enforcement officials registered a separate murder case against Sadiq Khan.
10-Year-Old Grandson Recounts the Ordeal
Ten-year-old Kartikeya, who was safely rescued from the river, told the police that Sadiq Khan frequently visited their house and physically assaulted his mother. On the day of the incident, at his grandfather's behest, his mother held his hand and jumped from the bridge into the river. Since Kartikeya knew how to swim, he stayed afloat in the water for about 20 minutes and screamed for help, prompting local fishermen to rescue him. The accused Sadiq Khan is currently absconding, and 10 police teams have been deployed to track him down.
