In Hindu traditions, the Ekadashi tithi holds profound significance among all lunar dates. The day of Ekadashi is dedicated entirely to Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe. According to religious beliefs, observing a fast on this sacred day and performing rituals for Lakshmi Narayan helps eliminate all sorrows and fulfills the deepest desires of devotees. In particular, the Ekadashi during the Shukla Paksha of the Sawan month carries extraordinary importance because it offers a rare opportunity to seek the combined blessings of both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. A renowned astrologer from Deoghar has shared detailed insights regarding the exact date, auspicious timings, and rituals for this year's Sawan Putrada Ekadashi.
Deoghar Astrologer Details the Auspicious Fast
Renowned astrologer Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal of the Mudgal Jyotish Kendra, located at the Pagal Baba Ashram in Deoghar, explained that the entire month of Sawan is dedicated to Lord Shiva. He noted that worshiping Lord Vishnu during this sacred month yields immense spiritual benefits, granting the joint blessings of both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. The Ekadashi that falls during the Shukla Paksha of the Sawan month is known as Putrada Ekadashi. According to the panchang, the fast for Putrada Ekadashi will be observed on August 5 this year.
Ekadashi Timing and Auspicious Muhurat
According to the astrologer, based on calculations from the Rishikesh Panchang, the Ekadashi tithi of the Sawan Shukla Paksha begins on August 4 at 11:14 AM. The tithi will conclude on the following day, August 5, at 1:12 PM. Based on the Udaya tithi, the fast will be observed on August 5.
Auspicious Yogas Formed and Bhindra Shadow
This year, on the auspicious occasion of Putrada Ekadashi during the Sawan Shukla Paksha, rare combinations of Indra Yoga and Ravi Yoga are forming, which are considered highly favorable. However, a shadow of Bhdra will also remain on this day, and performing worship during Bhadra is generally prohibited according to traditions. The Bhadra period will begin on August 5 at 5:23 AM and will last until 11:33 AM. Additionally, a Shivvas yoga will also be active on this day, which is deemed extremely auspicious. During this time, Lord Bholenath along with his mount Nandi will be seated on Mount Kailash, amplifying the spiritual rewards of the prayers.
Special Rituals for Couples Seeking Children
For couples facing hurdles in having children or those earnestly desiring offspring, this fast is considered highly beneficial. The astrologer advises that couples desiring children should keep a fast on Putrada Ekadashi. They should take a clean vessel filled with Gangajal and pour it over the Shivling while chanting the mantra “Om Namah Shivaya”. Alongside this, they must also perform sincere worship of Lord Lakshmi Narayan. Doing so fulfills all heartfelt wishes and soon brings the joyous laughter of children into their homes.
