A heartbreaking incident has surfaced from Pune district in Maharashtra, where three members of a family died by suicide following severe financial distress. The tragic event took place in the Morwadi area of Pimpri, involving 50-year-old Vinod Pillai, his 45-year-old wife Sreeja Pillai, and their 19-year-old daughter Poornima Pillai. Emergency responders rushed the family to a hospital after they were found unconscious, where Vinod passed away on Saturday, while Sreeja and Poornima succumbed on Sunday.
Absence From Work Raised Alarm
The tragedy came to light after Sreeja Pillai, who worked as a coordinator at a local school in Morwadi, failed to report for her regular duty. Concerned about her sudden absence, her colleagues repeatedly attempted to reach her over the phone. When multiple calls went unanswered, the staff contacted her relatives living nearby in the city to check on her well-being.
Relatives Found Open Door and Unconscious Family
Upon receiving the phone call, relatives residing in the vicinity rushed to the Pillai home in Morwadi. On arriving at the house, they discovered that the front door was left unlatched and open. Stepping inside, they found all three family members lying unconscious on the floor. The family members immediately notified local police officers and arranged for all three to be rushed to the nearest medical facility for urgent care. Doctors declared Vinod Pillai dead on Saturday, while Sreeja and Poornima lost their lives during treatment on Sunday.
Relocated From Kerala Three Years Ago
According to police officials, the family originally hailed from Kerala and had relocated to the Pimpri area three years ago. During their search of the premises, investigating officers recovered a suicide note left behind by the deceased family members. The note explicitly detailed their ongoing struggle with severe financial crisis and clarified that no outside individual was responsible for their decision. Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter to complete all formal legal procedures.
