Semiconductor and memory chipmaker Micron has announced a massive $10 billion investment to set up advanced research laboratories in the United States. The strategic move is designed to reinforce the country's leadership in artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing. US President Donald Trump welcomed the announcement, calling it a major victory for the national economy and technological innovation.
Building Next-Generation AI Infrastructure
The new $10 billion investment will fund state-of-the-art research facilities across America, focusing on developing cutting-edge memory and processing technologies. Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, Donald Trump stated that the project will create tens of thousands of high-paying jobs. He also commended Micron Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sanjay Mehrotra for spearheading the expansion.
Building on a $250 Billion Commitment
This fresh expenditure comes on top of Micron's previously announced $250 billion long-term investment plan in domestic chip production. Driven by an unprecedented surge in global demand for AI memory hardware, Micron has experienced stellar financial growth this year. The company has also previously pledged $250 million toward the Trump Accounts initiative for children.
Strengthening Domestic Supply Chains
Highlighting the impact of his administration's economic policies, Donald Trump emphasized that major corporations are committing trillions of dollars to domestic manufacturing. Bringing critical supply chains back home is viewed as a vital step toward securing technological independence and sustaining long-term growth in the semiconductor market.
