About Kashi
Kashi is an ancient mythological city located within the present day city of Varanasi and is regarded as one of the oldest cities in the world. It sits on the northern bank of the Ganga in the southeastern part of Uttar Pradesh, between the points where the Varuna and Assi rivers meet the Ganga. At this stretch the Ganga curves for about four miles from south to north, and Kashi is situated along that very bend. The city's old name 'Varanasi' had colloquially become 'Banaras' over time, which the Uttar Pradesh government later officially restored to 'Varanasi'. Its ruler was Raja Rishi Ram Kol of the Nagvanshi dynasty.
