A remarkable story of bravery and willpower has emerged from Tanarjipalli village in Odisha's Ganjam district, where an 11-year-old schoolboy survived a traumatic road accident through sheer determination. Despite sustaining a deep abdominal wound that caused his intestines to come out, the young boy remained composed and took immediate action that ultimately saved his life.
Accident on the Way to School
The incident occurred on August 17 when 11-year-old Chinu Malik was walking from his home toward his school. En route, he was involved in a severe road accident that resulted in a deep cut on his stomach, leaving his internal organs exposed. While such a horrific injury could induce severe panic, Chinu showed incredible composure. He used his school uniform shirt to tightly hold and support his exposed intestines, preventing further contamination and injury. Maintaining his grip, he walked two kilometers back to his village of Tanarjipalli to seek help.
Lack of Paved Roads and Emergency Transport
When Chinu reached the village clutching his abdomen, his family and local residents were shocked by his condition. The family attempted to call an ambulance, but the vehicle could not reach the village due to the absence of a proper paved road connecting Tanarjipalli. Recognizing the urgency, Chinu's relatives placed him on a motorcycle and rushed him 10 kilometers to the Badagada Medical Center. After receiving essential primary care there, he was transferred via ambulance to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for emergency specialized surgical intervention.
Complex Two-Hour Surgery at Berhampur
Upon arrival at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, a medical team immediately moved the young patient into the operating theatre. Surgeons performed a complex procedure lasting approximately two hours to clean and reposition the exposed intestines back inside his abdominal cavity. Chinu received blood transfusions during the procedure and was subsequently shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) under strict monitoring. Pediatric Specialist Dr. Manas Ranjan Das noted, "By God's grace, the child survived and is now completely out of danger." Medical professionals confirmed that he would be discharged once the surgical wound heals completely.
Recovery Progress Three Days Post-Surgery
Three days after undergoing surgery, Chinu is showing significant health improvements. He has regained consciousness and started speaking to his mother and maternal uncle in the hospital ward. Doctors have gradually initiated a liquid diet to help his digestive system recover. Reflecting on his ordeal, Chinu Malik stated, "When my intestines came out, I did not panic and walked home holding them with my shirt." He added that wrapping his uniform shirt tightly provided slight relief from the severe pain while walking. His steady recovery continues to bring immense relief to his family and caregivers.
