The commencement of the Monsoon Session of Parliament has brought with it a surge in political temperature across the national capital. A violent clash between the police and supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) marching from Jantar Mantar towards the Parliament has sparked a major controversy. Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav has launched a scathing attack on the Central Government over this incident. While addressing the media outside the Parliament complex, he strongly condemned the police action and raised serious questions about the government's intentions. He explicitly stated that using police force to crush the peaceful protests of students and youth is deeply unfortunate for a democratic country.
Accusations of Suppressing Democratic Rights
The Samajwadi Party chief termed the lathi-charge by the police as a direct assault on the democratic setup. Akhilesh Yadav argued that the brutality meted out to the students and young people who had taken to the streets with their demands is completely unjustified. He emphasized that the use of force against the demonstrators is clear evidence that the ruling party is terrified of the voice of the common people. According to him, the government wants to crush every voice of dissent that rises against its policies. Commenting on the situation, Yadav remarked that the treatment of the youth clearly shows that the government is operating out of fear and taking oppressive steps in its panic.
Questions Over Shielding a Controversial Minister
Along with condemning the police action, Akhilesh Yadav also brought up the issue of a minister who is facing massive public outrage across the country. He posed a direct question to the Central Government regarding the compulsions or hidden pressures preventing the minister's dismissal. He pointed out that today the entire nation, the youth, and their families are standing against the government, demanding the immediate removal of the said minister. Despite this widespread anger, the government is keeping him in his post. The Samajwadi Party leader urged everyone to think deeply about what specific pressure the government is facing that is stopping it from taking action and removing the ministers.
The Clash at Jantar Mantar
This entire controversy erupted following a massive demonstration at Jantar Mantar on the very first day of the Parliament's Monsoon Session. Answering the call of the Cockroach Janta Party, a massive crowd of supporters, mostly comprising students and youth, had gathered to march towards the Parliament building. As the crowd attempted to move forward, the police intervened to halt their progress. During this face-off, a scuffle broke out between the law enforcement personnel and the protesters, which soon escalated into a violent clash. The police resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the agitated crowd. Multiple young protesters, as well as several police officers, sustained injuries in the melee. Following this incident, the opposition parties have united to corner the government, accusing it of silencing the youth with batons and demanding swift accountability.
