In a major organizational change ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, state unit president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has resigned from his post. He handed over his resignation letter to Congress General Secretary in charge of organisation K. C. Venugopal before returning to his residence in Chandigarh. With this resignation, Warring's tenure at the helm of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee comes to a close.
Party Leadership Preparing to Name Successor
The party high command is expected to announce the name of the new Punjab Congress chief within the next 24 to 48 hours. This leadership transition ahead of the electoral contest is viewed as a calculated step to resolve factional friction inside the state unit. The central leadership is looking for a leader capable of bridging differences across factions and keeping party workers united on the ground.
Efforts to Overcome Internal Factionalism
The state organization had witnessed recurring differences and friction among prominent leaders in recent months. Despite coordination efforts by senior party leaders and outreach ahead of high-level visits, internal conflicts continued to surface.
