Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has expressed strong optimism that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will successfully address long-standing bilateral issues through mutual discussion. Speaking to journalists during the inauguration of a children playing area at the Indian Visa Application Center in Dhaka, Trivedi noted that he has heard the Bangladesh leader speak on multiple occasions and sees him as a mass leader much like the Indian Prime Minister.

According to Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, an official invitation to visit India had been extended to Tarique Rahman soon after he assumed office in February 2026. Furthermore, as the current chair of BIMSTEC, India has separately invited him to attend the outreach session of the 18th BRICS summit scheduled in New Delhi. This regional platform, connecting seven nations across South and Southeast Asia, presents a vital opportunity for both governments to repair their relationship and steer regional development forward.
