Bahujan Samaj Party national president and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati made it clear on Tuesday that her party will fight the upcoming Punjab assembly elections entirely on its own strength without entering into any political alliances. She stated that just like in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the party will contest the electoral battle in Punjab independently.
Relying on Organizational Strength and Ground Support
Mayawati made this major announcement during a high-level review meeting held at the party's central camp office to evaluate organizational activities and public support in Punjab. According to a statement issued by the party, she noted that electoral alliances often result in seat-sharing complications and vote-transfer issues that negatively impact the morale of grassroots workers. Therefore, the party has decided to contest the elections relying solely on its own organization and dedicated voter base.
Emphasis on Selecting Hardworking and Honest Candidates
The BSP chief placed strong emphasis on fielding hardworking, dedicated, and honest candidates for the upcoming Punjab assembly elections. She urged leaders to present the party's inclusive policies of Sarvajan Hitay and Sarvajan Sukhay, alongside Ambedkarite ideologies, as a credible alternative for citizens who are distressed by the alleged anti-people approach of parties like the Aam Aadmi Party, Congress, and Bharatiya Janata Party.
Strengthening the Grassroots and Honoring Party Icons
Mayawati stressed that building a robust booth-level organization and expanding the voter base in Punjab would serve as a true tribute to great saint Guru Ravidas, Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and party founder Kanshi Ram. During the review, she directed local leaders to systematically address any organizational shortcomings within a strict timeframe.
Furthermore, she called upon the Punjab unit to prepare extensively for the death anniversary of party founder Kanshi Ram on October 9 and ensure the event is a grand success. She added that financial contributions gathered during the Jan Kalyan Diwas on January 15, 2027, must surpass previous efforts, noting that financial strength is vital for carrying the Ambedkarite movement forward.
BJP Also Contesting All Seats Alone in Punjab
Prior to this announcement, the Bharatiya Janata Party stated that it would contest all seats alone in Punjab. As assembly elections draw closer, political parties across the state are ramping up their preparations and strategizing to strengthen their respective grounds. BJP organizational general secretary BL Santhosh previously confirmed that his party plans to contest all 117 assembly constituencies in the state independently.
