The political climate in the country has intensified over the ongoing controversies surrounding the NEET exam leaks. Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi is currently addressing the media while wearing a black armband, launching a fierce attack against the government. He questioned the recent police action, asking what wrong the students had committed to deserve being beaten. In a strong statement, he highlighted that the nation has witnessed 152 paper leaks over the last 10 years, which have negatively impacted 7.5 crore students, yet no one has faced any punishment. His address also included sharp criticism regarding the protests by the Cockroach Janta Party.
Nationwide Protests and Police Action
The Congress party has launched a nationwide agitation in response to the police actions at Jantar Mantar and the subsequent detention of their leaders in Delhi. The unrest stems from the massive uproar over the NEET paper leak issue. Just a day prior, on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi led a massive sit-in demonstration near the official residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, located at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. He was joined by several prominent political figures, including Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Akhilesh Yadav, as they sat on a dharna outside the Prime Minister's house.
Detention at the Prime Minister's Residence
During the sit-in, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, Jitendra Singh, engaged in discussions with Rahul Gandhi. Despite the talks, the protesting leaders refused to end their demonstration. After approximately 3 hours of the ongoing dharna, the Delhi Police intervened and took Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Akhilesh Yadav into custody. The political leaders were held by the authorities before being released late in the night, further fueling the opposition's anger against the ruling administration.
Government Condemns Opposition Tactics
Following the protests and detentions, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan heavily criticized the Congress parliamentarian's actions. Taking to the social media platform X, Dharmendra Pradhan accused the Leader of the Opposition of shamelessly using students as a political weapon. He stated that the intention behind these demonstrations was to create a disturbance during the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament. Furthermore, the Education Minister pointed out that the decision to stage a sit-in outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence led to significant public inconvenience and represented a clear disregard for established security protocols.
