Unidentified miscreants targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Sangrur, Punjab, during the early hours between Saturday and Sunday. The attackers threw a petrol-filled glass bottle at the premises around 3 AM, causing a sudden explosion that ignited a fire inside the building. Along with setting off the blaze, the perpetrators smeared black paint across the office walls before fleeing the scene.
Details of the Late Night Attack
Local authorities reported that the incident took place in the dead of night when the office was largely unoccupied. The petrol bomb smashed against the structure, immediately catching fire and causing damage to the office entrance and walls. Upon discovering the vandalism and charring in the morning, local party workers alerted law enforcement agencies. Police officials quickly arrived at the spot to gather forensic evidence, inspect the damage, and examine security cameras in the surrounding area.
Pattern of Attacks on Political Offices
This incident in Sangrur follows a series of security threats and explosions directed at political establishments in the region. Earlier, an explosion occurred outside the BJP office in Chandigarh involving a crude bomb, for which Khalistani operative Sukhjinder Singh subsequently claimed responsibility on social media. Similar attacks using petrol bombs and glass bottles have also been reported at RSS premises in Ranchi, raising serious concerns regarding coordinated targeting of party locations. Police have registered a case and deployed additional security forces to safeguard political offices across the district while working to identify those responsible for the attack.
