Police detained Rahul Gandhi during a protest in Delhi, triggering demonstrations by Congress workers across the country. Bihar saw an immediate reaction, with Congress workers gathering at the Lokbhavan gate in Patna and shouting slogans against the central government.
Sit-in at Patna's Lokbhavan
Congress state president Rajesh Ram himself sat down for the protest at the Lokbhavan gate along with several party workers. The party says the sit-in is against the lathi charge on protesters in Delhi. Notably, the entire Lokbhavan premises is declared a restricted zone, meaning any gathering, protest or sit-in there is technically illegal. Despite this, Congress workers raised loud slogans at the spot.
Rahul Gandhi's detention in Delhi
Police detained Rahul Gandhi during an ongoing protest in the national capital, Delhi. Large numbers of young people from across the country had also joined that protest. As news of his detention spread, Congress leaders and workers in different states came out in protest.
NEET students' issue also part of the protest
The Patna sit-in was not limited to opposing the Delhi lathi charge alone; demands linked to the NEET matter were also raised. Congress workers demanded that FIRs filed against students be withdrawn, and also called for the resignation of union minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Congress protests spread to other states too
The protest was not confined to Bihar. In Jharkhand, police detained several leaders during a Congress demonstration outside Lokbhavan in Ranchi. In Madhya Pradesh, Congress workers held a sit-in from the Assembly to Rajbhavan, where police also took Patwari into custody. In Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhu himself was seen sitting in protest, raising slogans against the central government.
