A unique development has emerged in the politics of Madhya Pradesh, sparking widespread discussion. Kamleshwar Dodiyar, the MLA representing the Sailana constituency, has initiated an unconventional step regarding his legislative remuneration. He has submitted a formal letter to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, requesting that his salary and other official allowances be suspended for a period of 10 months.
A Decision Driven by Education
Kamleshwar Dodiyar has enrolled as a regular student in the LLM program at the National Law Institute University (NLIU) in Bhopal. Upon beginning this academic pursuit, he made the personal decision to decline the financial benefits associated with his position as an MLA for the duration of his studies. To formalize this, he has written to Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar, as well as the Finance Minister, Higher Education Minister, Tribal Affairs Minister, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, the Chief Secretary, and the Principal Secretary of the Assembly, requesting a temporary hold on all payments.
Specific Timeline for Salary Suspension
In his official correspondence, Dodiyar has provided precise dates for this suspension. He has requested that his salary and all legislative allowances be withheld from July 20, 2026, until May 15, 2027. He believes that a deeper understanding of legal frameworks will eventually enable him to address the grievances of his constituents more effectively and provide better legal solutions to their problems.
Balancing Public Service and Academics
Reaffirming his commitment to his constituency, the MLA stated that the pursuit of higher education is aimed at enhancing his performance as a public representative. He emphasized that his academic journey will not impede his constitutional obligations. He assured that while adhering to the guidelines set by the Bar Council of India and the university, he will continue to prioritize attendance during assembly sessions.
Self-Funded Regional Tours
As part of his decision to relinquish state benefits, he clarified that all future visits to his Sailana constituency will be conducted entirely at his own expense. He maintains that balancing the demands of education with public service is his primary objective, and he will continue to engage with the public to address regional issues. This move has created a ripple effect in state politics, serving as a bold example for other public representatives.
