A massive political controversy has erupted across West Bengal following the sudden suspension of two prominent Trinamool Congress politicians from their respective legislative houses. The disciplinary actions against state legislator Kunal Ghosh and Member of Parliament Kalyan Banerjee have not only intensified the ongoing political battle in the state but also exposed apparent internal fractures within the party. The consecutive suspensions have triggered sharp reactions from various political heavyweights, raising serious questions about the internal stability of the political organization and the conduct of its representatives on the legislative floor.
Assembly Chaos Leads To Eviction
The initial spark of the current political firestorm occurred inside the West Bengal Assembly during a critical legislative session. Lawmakers were engaged in a detailed discussion regarding the financial budget for the crucial Home and Hill Affairs department. During this debate, Akharuzzaman, who serves as the rebel chief whip for the Trinamool Congress, was delivering his speech. The proceedings took a chaotic turn when Kunal Ghosh began persistently interrupting the address. The continuous disruptions severely impacted the flow of the session, prompting immediate intervention from the chair.
The Speaker of the Assembly took strict note of the unparliamentary conduct and subsequently ordered the suspension of Kunal Ghosh for the entirety of the day. "The Speaker did absolutely the right thing by removing him for repeatedly disrupting the proceedings of the house," he stated firmly.

The wave of condemnation continued as Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari issued a strong statement regarding the assembly incident. He categorized the continuous interruptions as highly inappropriate and unbecoming of an elected representative. The Chief Minister emphasized that while sitting in the opposition comes with its own set of democratic rights, it also carries significant responsibilities that must be honored at all times.
"This kind of behavior cannot be accepted at all," the Chief Minister remarked while addressing the controversy. He drew attention to the stature of the interrupted speaker, reminding everyone that Akharuzzaman is a veteran legislator. He added that Akharuzzaman comes from a respected political lineage, as his father also served the public as a lawmaker for an extended period. Disciplinary Action In The Lok Sabha
While the state assembly dealt with its own crisis, a parallel drama unfolded in New Delhi involving another senior Trinamool Congress leader. Member of Parliament Kalyan Banerjee faced severe repercussions in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Following formal complaints regarding his alleged use of highly unparliamentary language and objectionable behavior directed specifically at women parliamentarians, the presiding officers took stringent action. Consequently, Banerjee was suspended from participating in the Lok Sabha for the entire remainder of the monsoon session.
The federal suspension only added fuel to the raging political fire. A visibly furious Kalyan Banerjee refused to remain silent and immediately launched a counter offensive. However, instead of solely targeting the national leadership, he directed his immense anger toward rebel Trinamool Congress lawmakers who had recently abandoned the party to join the NCPI. Speaking out against his detractors, the suspended Member of Parliament dismissed the political relevance of the rebel faction in West Bengal. "What will they achieve by suspending me from here?" he questioned defiantly.
Banerjee claimed that the breakaway group possesses absolutely no mass support or voter base in the state. He mocked their organizational strength, stating that the newly formed party barely consists of twenty individuals. According to him, even after holding a meeting in Kolkata over a month and a half later, they could not muster the support of twenty genuine voters. He reiterated that the people of West Bengal have not given them any electoral mandate.
