The West Bengal state government has taken a major decision to honor citizens who stood up to protect democratic values during the Emergency. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that 325 identified individuals who participated in demonstrations during that period will receive a monthly pension of Rs 10,000. This welfare measure aims to recognize the contribution of those who bravely fought to uphold the nation's democratic structure under extremely difficult circumstances.
Framework of the Loktantra Senani Honor Scheme
To implement this policy, the state administration has launched a designated initiative titled the 'West Bengal Loktantra Senani Honor' scheme. According to official details, the state government has already completed the identification process for 325 individuals who actively joined protests against the Emergency and were jailed as a result. All these identified freedom defenders will now be enrolled under this honor scheme to receive financial assistance of Rs 10,000 every month.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari formally declared the decision on Sunday during an official event organized at Nabanna, the state administrative headquarters. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister emphasized that the BJP-led state government under the leadership of Suvendu Adhikari will function by keeping in mind the ideals of those who sacrificed for the country. Information regarding this monthly pension scheme was first shared on the floor of the state assembly during its budget session, paving the way for its official implementation.
