Commercial activities in the Karauli district of Rajasthan witnessed a massive surge on Friday as the five-day Diwali festival began with Dhanteras. Shopping hubs across the city were packed with eager buyers from early morning until late into the night. According to local trade estimates, the district recorded an overall turnover of approximately Rs 25 crore during the single day. High demand across jewelry, vehicles, home appliances, and festive goods brought significant momentum to local merchants.
Jewelry Sector Dominates Sales Amid Softening Bullion Prices
The bullion market registered the highest footfall and consumer spending during the Dhanteras celebrations. A recent drop in the prices of precious metals encouraged residents to make substantial purchases of ornaments and precious items. Local jeweler Dinesh Saraf noted that the reduced rates for gold and silver had a direct positive impact on buyer enthusiasm. Customers purchased traditional jewelry pieces alongside silver coins, utensils, and ritual items, generating an estimated business of Rs 15 crore in Karauli's bullion sector alone.
Strong Demand in Utensil and Garment Markets
In keeping with the festive tradition of buying new utensils on Dhanteras, stores selling kitchenware and prayer items saw continuous crowds throughout the day. Shoppers purchased daily-use products made of steel, copper, and brass, along with specialized puja thalis, ritual bells, and other items required for upcoming Diwali prayers. Utensil merchants estimated total sales between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh. Concurrently, apparel stores experienced brisk trading as residents bought new clothes, sarees, and traditional outfits for the festival.
Surge in Deliveries of Vehicles, Electronics, and Festive Essentials
Vehicle showrooms and electronics outlets across the city reported high customer traffic throughout the day. Buyers gathered at motorcycle and scooter dealerships from the morning hours to take delivery of pre-booked vehicles during auspicious time slots. Electronics stores also reported steady sales of LED TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, mixers, juicers, grinders, and microwave ovens. The festive spirit was complemented by strong sales of sweets, dry fruits, clay lamps, idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha, and decorative lighting items, keeping the illuminated markets vibrant late into the evening.
