A comprehensive initiative to upgrade agricultural marketing infrastructure has been set in motion across Rajasthan, with the state administration clearing substantial funding to overhaul rural trade hubs. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has sanctioned Rs 57.41 crore for extensive development works across 30 Krishi Upaj Mandi Samitis (Agricultural Produce Market Committees). The allocated capital will be directed toward constructing modern auction yards, strengthening electrical infrastructure, building fresh access roads, and repairing heavily damaged road stretches leading into these market yards. The core objective of this infrastructure drive is to streamline the movement of farm produce from village doorsteps directly to trading platforms, delivering tangible convenience and functional upgrades for growers and traders alike.
Better Road Connectivity to Cut Travel Hurdles for Farmers
In the agricultural trade lifecycle, the journey of produce from the field to the auction platform represents the most critical link. The operational efficiency of any mandi hinges upon its approach roads, reliable power grids, and well-designed yard platforms. Farmers bringing grains, pulses, and oilseeds from distant villages frequently face severe hardships when arterial rural roads fall into disrepair. Dilapidated routes not only drag out transit times but also inflate transportation expenses and risk crop spillage. Rebuilding fractured approach roads and laying down fresh paved routes will establish seamless freight passage, ensuring produce reaches wholesale buyers quickly while cutting unnecessary transit overheads.
30 Agricultural Market Committees Slated for Development
The approved corpus of Rs 57.41 crore will be distributed based on the targeted requirements of 30 specific market committees spanning across multiple districts of Rajasthan. In Bikaner district, the development works will cover Bajju, Nokha, Khajuwala, and Sridungargarh mandis. The plan also encompasses Palsana and Sikar mandis in Sikar district, along with facilities in Jaisalmer, Pratapgarh, Dausa's Mandawari and Mahwa, Baran, Nahargarh, Tonk's Uniara and Niwai, and Samraniya. Furthermore, Sadulpur in Churu, Bijainagar in Beawar, and Ridmalsar and Gharsana in Sri Ganganagar have been designated for funding.
The extensive modernization list extends to Kapasan in Chittorgarh, Didwana, Bhinmal, Madanganj-Kishangarh, Degana, Kaman in Deeg district, Nagaur, Udaipur, Choumehla in Jhalawar, Kota, and Sangaria in Hanumangarh district. Each of these 30 designated centers will undergo needs-based structural interventions, including laying out dedicated yard surfaces, updating electrical networks to support round-the-clock operations, and carrying out extensive structural restorations on surrounding feeder roads.
Upgraded Yard Spaces and Reliable Power Supply
Unsheltered market yards pose persistent logistical risks during peak harvest seasons, leaving harvested produce exposed to adverse conditions. The addition of newly engineered mandi yards will supply covered platforms for loading, unloading, sorting, and holding open auctions without spatial bottlenecks. Concurrently, reinforcing electrical grids ensures uninterrupted operations for weighing equipment, yard illumination, security systems, and administrative functions. These combined upgrades will significantly improve the daily working environment for agricultural workers, traders, and visiting farmers.
Anticipated Boost in Commodity Inflow and Mandi Revenues
Enhanced accessibility and functional infrastructure directly correlate with higher volumes of agricultural arrivals. As smoother feeder roads remove transit friction, farmers will be encouraged to route their harvest to these regulated marketplaces rather than selling at distress terms locally. An expanded inflow of farm commodities is anticipated to stimulate commercial turnover across these trading centers, ultimately bolstering the statutory fee collections and revenues of the respective market committees. By joining hands-on yard improvements with wider rural road networks, the administration aims to deliver durable economic benefits to growers, commission agents, and mandi authorities alike.
