The festive rush for Diwali has significantly heightened passenger pressure at the Jaipur railway station, with traveler volume surging to nearly two and a half times the normal daily average. Managing this massive influx and ensuring passenger safety has emerged as a major challenge for the railway administration, leading to the implementation of a comprehensive crowd management plan. To curb unnecessary congestion within the station premises, the sale of platform tickets has been completely suspended, allowing entry exclusively to confirmed travelers holding valid tickets. Additionally, a separate waiting area has been constructed outside the station building so that individuals accompanying passengers or waiting for delayed trains do not crowd the inner concourse.
NCC Cadets and Scouts Assist Travelers
To provide guidance and support to the swelling crowds, NCC cadets and members of the railway scout have been actively deployed across the station. The railway scout has established three dedicated assistance booths where travelers can obtain accurate details regarding train schedules and platform allocations. These information desks are proving especially beneficial for first-time travelers and visitors arriving from distant cities during the hectic festive period.
Staff Leave Cancelled and Security Strengthened
In response to the extraordinary surge in passenger numbers, the railway authorities have substantially reinforced security and operational deployment. The presence of railway police and station management personnel has been visibly increased across all critical points. To ensure seamless execution of crowd control protocols, all scheduled leaves for railway employees have been cancelled. Personnel have been assigned specific responsibilities spanning from the main entrance gates to the platforms, with the primary objective of maintaining a steady flow of foot traffic and preventing dangerous bottlenecks.
Structured Flow and Waiting Arrangements
The administrative focus centers on keeping passenger movement organized from the moment individuals enter the station grounds. The newly established external resting facility provides a designated space for people waiting for their departures, successfully diverting them from occupying platform space. After entering through the main gates, travelers are directed along designated pathways toward their specific platforms, thereby preventing chaotic overlaps at ticket counters and entry points.
A Tough Test for Festive Crowd Management
While an annual surge in passenger traffic is expected during Diwali, the current volume reaching nearly two and a half times standard levels represents an intense operational test for the Jaipur junction management. The strategy this season extends far beyond merely running special trains, encompassing rigorous physical control over platform access, guided movement toward correct boarding areas, and active deterrence of non-traveler congestion. Maintaining flawless execution of these emergency measures amid heavy festive traffic remains a formidable challenge for station authorities.
