A fresh chapter in grassroots democracy unfolded in the Alwar district of Rajasthan as local residents placed their faith in youth over conventional political experience. Within the Raini panchayat samiti, 21-year-old student Prerna Naruka contested the panchayat polls in Gadh village and secured an impressive victory by a margin of 387 votes, stepping into rural governance at an exceptionally young age.
Family Roots and the Path to Public Life
Familiarity with community administration came naturally to the young representative through her home environment. Her father, Tejveer Singh, previously served as the sarpanch of Gadh gram panchayat in 2015. Observing his daily engagement with citizen grievances and infrastructure initiatives instilled in her an early interest in civic responsibility and community welfare.
While pursuing higher education in physiotherapy in Jaipur, circumstances aligned when the local sarpanch seat was officially reserved for women candidates. Deciding not to remain a bystander, she chose to balance her academic commitments with grassroots leadership, stepping directly into the election contest.
Focus on Local Infrastructure and Education for Girls
Following the declaration of the election results, village residents organized enthusiastic receptions across the area to celebrate her triumph. The community rallied behind the prospect of modern perspective combined with dedicated public service.
Outlining her immediate agenda, the newly elected village head emphasized that expanding educational access for women and advancing all-round infrastructural development throughout Gadh will remain her foremost commitments throughout her tenure.
