Political friction has surfaced within the family of Rajasthan education minister Madan Dilawar, centering around the upcoming local body elections in Atru municipality of Baran district. As the region prepares for its very first civic polls, ward number 21 has turned into a major political hotspot due to controversies surrounding voter list registrations and potential candidacies linked directly to the minister's household.
Voter List Controversy in Ward 21
The controversy began on August 21 when Pawan Dilawar and his wife Hemalata Dilawar filed applications to get their names included in part-1 of the voter list for ward number 21 of the Atru municipality. The address provided in the application listed house number 10 near the bus stand in Atru. When the application reached sub-divisional magistrate Anjana Sehrawat, doubts arose regarding the validity of the stated residence. A five-member committee was subsequently formed to investigate the matter. Committee members visited the spot and recorded statements from residents of five neighbouring houses. The inquiry revealed that neither Pawan Dilawar nor his wife had ever lived at the address or were residing there presently. No solid proof of residence in ward 21 was submitted, and the Aadhaar cards attached to the applications belonged to Rangbari.
SDM Rejects the Applications
Acting on the inquiry report, the SDM rejected the applications filed by Pawan Dilawar and Hemalata Dilawar for inclusion in the electoral roll. The official order specifically noted that instead of signatures, thumb impressions were affixed on the applications. The order stated that despite being educated, the use of thumb impressions raised doubts about the authenticity and reality of the application. Since Atru is holding its municipal elections for the very first time, the attempts by the minister's son and daughter-in-law to get their names added to the voter list just before the polls have sparked considerable public debate.
With Atru newly declared a municipality, the upcoming elections carry high stakes, especially since the post of municipal chairperson is reserved for the Scheduled Caste category. This reservation has already heightened local political activities. Amidst this backdrop, discussions involving family members of Madan Dilawar have added an intriguing twist to the contest. While speculations surround Pawan Dilawar contesting the elections, rumors are also rife about the minister's brother, Krishna Murari, entering the electoral fray from the same ward.
