At the time of the stoppage, Arthur Fery was comfortably leading the match 6-4 2-1. James Duckworth had called for a medical timeout immediately after the conclusion of the first set as discomfort slowed his movement. Unable to continue playing through the physical setback, Duckworth ultimately decided to retire from the match, handing the British player a ticket to the final.
Climbing the Rankings and Becoming British Number One
Beyond reaching the final, Arthur Fery has achieved a new career-high ranking of 33rd in the world. This latest update sees him overtake Cameron Norrie to claim the status of British number one. Arthur Fery will square off against Ignacio Buse in Saturday's final in North Carolina. Buse earned his spot in the title clash by overcoming France's Benjamin Bonzi 6-2 4-6 6-1 in his own semifinal encounter. The 22-year-old from Peru, currently ranked 36th in the world, is aiming for his second title of the season after previously defeating Tommy Paul at the ATP 500 event in Hamburg back in May.
Rapid Rise Heading Into the US Open
The journey to this maiden ATP final caps off a remarkable few weeks for Fery. Only eight weeks ago, prior to his impressive run to the Wimbledon semi-finals, he was ranked outside the top 100. This strong momentum carries him straight toward next month's US Open, where he narrowly missed out on receiving a seeded spot. At Flushing Meadows in New York, Fery is scheduled to face Italian 13th seed Lorenzo Musetti in the opening round.
