Road construction on the crucial Malakhera bypass in Rajasthan's Alwar district has run into an impasse over an unvacated residential property. The affected stretch belongs to State Highway 44 (SH-44), connecting Natni Ka Bara, Malakhera, and Maujpur. According to departmental officials, the owner of the structure falling directly along the road alignment was disbursed roughly 1.5 crore rupees in compensation, yet the premises have not been cleared. Whenever contractors attempt to initiate earthwork and paving at the spot, family members gather to stall the machinery.
Highway Authorities Seek Administrative Intervention
Addressing the ongoing blockade, Devendra Kumar Singhal, Project Director at Rajasthan State Highway PIU Jaipur, has formally petitioned the Malakhera Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). In his communication, the project director highlighted recurrent obstructions at the site and requested administrative intervention. He urged the local administration to provide an adequate police deployment to maintain law and order, alongside binding the obstructing individuals under relevant legal provisions so that public infrastructure work can proceed without disruption.
Project Gridlock Across 150-Metre Stretch
Assistant Engineer Ishwar Singh clarified that approximately 1.5 crore rupees was remitted to Laxman Singh Meena for the house falling within the bypass alignment. Despite the financial settlement, the structure remains intact, bringing earthmovers to a standstill. Official records indicate that the gridlock is situated between Khasra numbers 5283/313, 5286/314, and 5289/315, specifically spanning project chainage kilometer 10+650 to 10+800, leaving exactly 150 metres of roadway unfinished.
Disruption on Site and Rising Traffic Stress
The highway department has cited interference by Laxman Singh Meena, Gajendra Meena, Vijendra Meena, and other family members, noting that local protests, frequently involving women from the household, force crews to abandon ongoing work. An official response or perspective from the accused family members has not been documented in the records. Meanwhile, this fragmented 150-metre segment is having an outsized ripple effect on the broader regional transit network.
Impact of Pending ROB and Railway Gate LC-128
The stalemate on SH-44 and the Malakhera bypass has aggravated daily travel misery for motorists. In this transit pocket, construction of the proposed road overbridge (ROB) remains unfinished, forcing heavy vehicular traffic to depend on the level crossing gate LC-128. With railway gate LC-128 closing frequently throughout the day, vehicle queues multiply rapidly, triggering chronic traffic snarls and lengthy delays. The Public Works Department (PWD) maintains that once police protection is sanctioned and the residential obstacle is cleared, the pending bypass stretch will be expedited to restore smooth vehicular flow.
