A brutal incident of extortion and abduction leading to death has shaken the Toonga police station jurisdiction in Jaipur. The victim, 25-year-old Omprakash Bairwa, who was kidnapped five days earlier over old rivalry and extortion demands, died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at a hospital. The assailants had demanded money from him to purchase an iPhone, and when he refused to comply, he was abducted and tortured. News of his demise triggered widespread outrage and tension across the locality as grieving villagers gathered in protest.
Abducted at Gunpoint from Agricultural Field
According to the First Information Report, the incident unfolded on the afternoon of September 15 while Omprakash was tending to his cattle in his field. A group of 15 to 20 armed assailants arrived at the spot in a Bolero and several motorcycles, surrounding him completely. They demanded money from him to buy an iPhone. When Omprakash resisted their unlawful demands, the gang abducted him at gunpoint in broad daylight.
Savage Assault at Farmhouse and Extortion Demand
The kidnappers transported Omprakash to a farmhouse located in Khataipura, where a gathering of 30 to 40 individuals was already present. The youth was subjected to severe physical brutality with iron rods and wooden sticks. The attackers looted 1 lakh rupees from his pocket and recorded videos of the assault, using the footage to demand a ransom of 5 lakh rupees. Later that night, around 9 pm, the attackers dumped him in a critical, half-dead condition by the roadside and fled the scene.
Hospital Demise and Two-Hour Station Siege
Omprakash eventually succumbed to his extensive injuries in the hospital on Tuesday. Family members alleged that local authorities initially delayed action, prompting court intervention under which a case was registered against seven named individuals and several unidentified suspects under stringent legal provisions. Following his death, furious villagers held a two-hour protest, gheraoing the Toonga police station. Bassi ACP Harji Lal Yadav stepped in to calm the crowd, stating that police promptly took 5 suspects into custody while conducting raids to nab the remaining culprits.
