The volatile unrest that erupted during the municipal board chairperson election in Sultanpur, located in Rajasthan's Kota district, has triggered formal police action against an elected representative. Pipalda constituency MLA Chetan Patel Kolana has been named in a criminal case for allegedly obstructing government officials from executing their lawful duties and unlawfully blocking public passage, alongside several other statutory charges. The official first information report was lodged on Tuesday night following a complaint from Sultanpur police station in-charge Daulat Sahu. Because an elected legislator is accused in the incident, the investigation has been transferred from the local jurisdictional police to the state CID-CB.
Councilor Dispute Leads to Escalation and Stone-Pelting
The confrontation originated on September 21 during the high-stakes municipal council presidential polling process. Clashes broke out between councilors representing the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party factions outside the polling venue. Tensions surged when Congress supporters allegedly intercepted and halted a vehicle transporting BJP councilors, triggering intense shouting and physical confrontation between rival groups. As the face-off rapidly deteriorated into stone-pelting, on-duty police teams stepped in to disperse the belligerents and deployed mild force to restore order in the locality.
Police Confrontation Followed by Police Station Protest
Upon receiving word of the street clashes, legislator Chetan Patel arrived at the scene accompanied by large groups of supporters. A heated exchange took place between the lawmaker and the deployment officers on ground. As the situation grew increasingly hostile, the MLA organized a demonstration directly outside the Sultanpur police station gates. Commotion persisted even inside the police facility in the legislator's presence. With local authorities formally lodging their complaint and handing the matter over to the CID-CB, the legal scrutiny has intensified surrounding the municipal electoral unrest.
