A love story from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district has become the talk of the town these days, tying a tiny village directly to Europe. Vishwajeet Singh, a 26-year-old from Tarehad village under Kot Panchayat in the Kotli sub-division of the Sadar area, has set a new precedent in his region by marrying a local woman from Estonia. The bride, Nanra, is 24 and hails from the city of Tartu.
The two tied the knot in Tartu on June 21. The moment the news reached the village and nearby areas, a festive mood swept across the entire Tungal region.
From an ordinary household to a job abroad
Vishwajeet comes from a modest family. His father, Hukam Chand, works as a mason, while his mother, Daya Devi, is a homemaker. According to the family, Vishwajeet earned a diploma in hotel management from Chandigarh. After completing his studies, he moved to Estonia on a working visa in 2021 along with his maternal uncle, Tara Chand. Today he works as a master chef at a large resort there.
A bond that began at work
Nanra works at the same resort. It was here, while working together, that the two first became friends, a friendship that gradually turned into love and finally into marriage as they began a new chapter of life. Vishwajeet's aunt, Bhintra Devi, said the newlyweds will arrive in Kotli in November this year.
A first for the panchayat
Kot Panchayat head Dharampal said this is the first time anyone in his panchayat has married a foreign woman, which is exactly why the wedding has become a talking point across the region. Dharampal extended his congratulations to Vishwajeet and his family on the happy occasion.
