German tennis star Alexander Zverev has achieved a historic milestone by securing a spot in the 2026 Wimbledon final. After competing on the Grand Slam stage for the past 10 years, Zverev has reached the Wimbledon title match for the very first time in his professional career. This milestone is particularly significant for German tennis as it breaks a 31-year absence of any German man reaching the final at the All England Club. The last German player to achieve this feat was Boris Becker, back in 1995. In a commanding semifinal performance, Zverev defeated Great Britain’s Arthur Fery in straight sets, winning 7-6, 6-2, 6-4 to clinch his place in the championship round.
Zverev advances to second consecutive Grand Slam final
Capitalizing on the early exits of top-tier players like Carlos Alcaraz, Zverev has maintained a formidable momentum throughout the tournament. Following his triumph at the French Open earlier this year in 2026, he has now moved into his second consecutive Grand Slam final. His performance in the semifinal was clinical, leaving Arthur Fery with virtually no opportunities to regain control. Although Fery did manage to break Zverev’s serve in the opening set, the tiebreak saw Zverev dominate decisively, preventing his opponent from scoring a single point. This allowed Zverev to claim the first set 7-6. He continued to leverage his powerful serve, clocking speeds of approximately 214 kilometers per hour, to dictate the pace for the remainder of the match, closing out the final two sets with relative ease at 6-2 and 6-4.
A maiden Wimbledon final appearance for Zverev
This victory cements Zverev’s status among the elite group of players who have successfully reached the finals of all four Grand Slam tournaments during their career. He is only the third German man to achieve this milestone since 1968, joining the ranks of legends like Boris Becker and Michael Stich. It is noteworthy that the last time a German man claimed the Wimbledon title was in 1991, courtesy of Michael Stich. This upcoming match will be Zverev’s debut in a Wimbledon final, a significant improvement given that he had previously never progressed beyond the round of 16 at this tournament. The year 2026 has been highly productive for the athlete, as this marks his third Grand Slam final of the season. He previously competed in the Australian Open final earlier this year, where he finished as the runner-up, before going on to secure the French Open title.
