Indian para-archer Sheetal Devi registered a historic milestone in the women's compound archery ranking round, equaling the world record score with a magnificent tally of 704 points. With this performance, Sheetal joined Turkey's Oznur Cure as the joint holder of the highest global total in the category, providing India a formidable start in the competition.
Dominance across qualification rounds
Demonstrating remarkable consistency, Sheetal shot identical totals of 352 points across both halves of the qualifying phase. Her steady execution placed her comfortably at the top of the leaderboard. Over the course of the round, she delivered 32 inner-ten center shots marked as X, along with 25 regular 10s, securing the top seeding in the tournament bracket.
Surpassing previous Asian and Games records
The achievement marks a six-point improvement over Sheetal's own earlier Asian record of 698 points, which she set in Bangkok, Thailand, in March of this year. Additionally, she eclipsed the tournament mark established at Hangzhou in 2023, where she had recorded 680 points, rewriting the record books with her new total of 704.
