The final day of the third leg of the World Archery Para Series in Ahmedabad witnessed remarkable performances from the Indian contingent. Headed by the world number one archer Sheetal Devi and Paralympic champion Harvinder Singh, the Indian team wrapped up the competition on Wednesday by bagging two gold and four bronze medals. The archers showcased exceptional precision and composure throughout the concluding matches of the tournament.
Golden Glory for Sheetal Devi and Harvinder Singh
Current world champion Sheetal Devi clinched the gold medal in the para compound women's individual category. Meanwhile, Harvinder Singh, who has already secured two Paralympic medals, partnered with Bhavana to claim the yellow metal in the para recurve mixed team event. In the recurve mixed team final match, the duo of Harvinder and Bhavana defeated China's Liang Qiurong and Xia Lei with a score of 6.0.
Thrilling Shoot-off and Individual Bouts
In the women's compound individual final, Sheetal Devi faced Kazakhstan's Aizada Seidan in a nail-biting encounter. Sheetal ultimately triumphed in the thrilling final by edging past her opponent 10-9 in a shoot-off. Prior to this, Sheetal had also teamed up with Toman Kumar to secure a bronze medal in the compound mixed team event, where they defeated Iraq's Sara Al Hamid and Abbas Kadhim by 157.145.
A Haul of Bronze Medals
Indian athletes displayed remarkable consistency to add multiple bronze medals to the tally across various events. In the para compound women's individual category, Sarita defeated China's Wang Huiting 141.140 to claim the bronze. Additionally, Toman triumphed over the current world champion Abbas Kadhim of Iraq with a score of 143.138 in the men's compound individual category to secure the bronze medal. In the recurve women's play-off, Bhavana defeated Rajshri Rathod 6.0 to secure another bronze for the nation.
