Hailing from Jobner town in the Jaipur district of Rajasthan, Khushi demonstrated extraordinary skill and determination to secure a gold medal at the prestigious World Archery Youth Invitational Competition 2026. Emerging from a modest rural family background, her journey to the global stage stands as a testament to unrelenting dedication and rigorous training.
Stunning Victory Over Host Korea-A in Final
At the tournament held on South Korean soil, Khushi represented India in the Under-21 women's recurve team event alongside teammates Pranjal Kondapavuluri and Yuktashree. The Indian trio displayed exceptional coordination and composure throughout the competition. The championship decider proved to be a nerve-wracking encounter, with India squaring off directly against host nation Korea-A on their home ground. Demonstrating incredible poise under intense pressure, the Indian team held their nerve to defeat Korea-A by a scoreline of 5-3 to claim the gold medal.
Dominant Performance Across Qualifying and Group Stages
The path to the podium required consistent excellence across every stage of the tournament. In the qualifying round, the Indian contingent accumulated a total score of 1890 points to secure the third rank. Khushi contributed significantly to this tally by recording an individual score of 634 points, which placed her ninth in the individual standings. Moving into the group stage, the Indian team defeated Korea-B by a margin of 5-3. Khushi also delivered a masterclass in her individual match, blanking her opponent from Singapore with a decisive 6-0 scoreline.
From Slingshot Practice in Jobner to Global Triumph
The foundations of Khushi's success were laid in her home town of Jobner, making her the very first female athlete from the Jaipur Rural region to earn a spot on the Indian national archery team. Her father, Sanwar Mal Kumawat, shared that Khushi never allowed her practice schedule to falter. Lacking access to high-end urban training centers, she created a dedicated practice area right at home. Alongside formal bow-and-arrow drills, she honed her precision by using a slingshot to target fruits hanging on nearby trees. This inventive and relentless practice routine paved her way into the national team.
Building Upon International Experience
Choosing to prioritize sports commitment alongside her education, Khushi maintained a sharp focus on refining her archery skills. Her selection for the national squad followed a standout performance in the rigorous national selection trials. Her international journey gained crucial momentum earlier in 2023 when she represented India at the Asia Cup in Taiwan.
