Indian squash player Velavan Senthilkumar delivered a commanding performance in Brno, capturing the 35,000 USD prize money Czech Open title. The 28-year-old athlete overcame a formidable top-seeded opponent over four hard-fought games to claim another major milestone on the international circuit.
Overcoming the Top Seed in a Four-Game Decider
Ranked 42nd globally and seeded fourth at the event, Senthilkumar squared off against Scotland's Greg Lobban, the tournament top seed who currently holds the world number 31 ranking. Displaying tactical discipline and composure in clutch moments, the Indian competitor prevailed with a final scoreline of 13-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-7. The victory marked the 12th PSA Tour triumph of Senthilkumar's professional career. It also represents his second career Copper-level silverware, having previously secured his maiden Copper-tier trophy at the Budapest Open in August.
Tough Outings for Indian Challengers at the US Open
While Senthilkumar celebrated his continental success, Indian squash contenders endured a demanding outing at the 241,000 USD PSA Platinum level US Open in Philadelphia. Egypt's world number one and tournament top seed Mostafa Asal proved too strong in the opening round, eliminating India's Abhay Singh, the world number 24, in straight games by 11-3, 11-1, 11-7.
The dominant Egyptian followed up that initial victory by halting the run of another Indian challenger in the subsequent round. Taking on world number 36 Veer Chotrani, Asal dictated the tempo from start to finish, recording an 11-1, 11-6, 11-4 triumph to end the Indian campaign in Philadelphia.
