How a Ranchi homemaker turned her grandmothers' recipes into a lakhs-a-year business on Swiggy and Zomato

For 10 years, Ranchi homemaker Supriya has run her brand Home Flavours, selling thekua, gujiya, nimki, laddoos and pickles on Swiggy and Zomato, taking her annual turnover into the lakhs.

In Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, a homemaker named Supriya has spent the last 10 years quietly building a kitchen business that now has customers cheering for her all the way from Bihar to Uttar Pradesh. Under her homemade brand Home Flavours, she makes gujiya, thekua, nimki, an array of laddoos and pickles, and her products are now sold on major online platforms like Swiggy and Zomato. Her company's annual turnover has climbed into the lakhs.

When neighbours mocked her thekua

Supriya says that when she first started out, people around her taunted her, saying this thekua business would not survive. The comment stung, but instead of giving up, she chose to keep her work almost entirely under wraps. She revealed little to anyone until her turnover had grown substantially on its own. Today the tables have turned, the very people who once mocked her now praise her work and have become her regular clients. Supriya says, Now they want every snack made only by my own hands.

Demand stretching from Bihar to Uttar Pradesh

According to Supriya, her customer base is no longer limited to Ranchi, it now stretches across Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. A big reason for this reach is that her products are listed on Zomato and other online platforms, letting orders travel straight to a customer's doorstep. Once someone tastes her food, they tend to come back, which is why she sees a large number of repeat customers. She credits this loyalty to quality, insisting every product is 100 percent original and authentic, and that she has never compromised on quality, calling it the biggest key to her success.

Pickle and laddoo recipes learned from her grandmothers

Supriya's pickle range includes several varieties, mahua pickle, chilli pickle, lemon pickle, green chilli and red chilli pickle, and ol (yam) pickle. Every one of these is still made entirely by hand, in the same style that mothers and grandmothers once used. Supriya says she learned all these recipes simply by watching her own grandmothers cook, and she continues to follow those traditional methods today.

Her daughters and husband became her biggest support

Through this entire journey, Supriya's two daughters supported her wholeheartedly, while her husband stood by her at every step. Even while managing her household, she carried this responsibility with full dedication. Supriya points out that children today eat a lot of burgers, pizza and Maggi outside, while genuinely healthy, authentic foods like fenugreek and gooseberry are slowly being forgotten. It was this concern that pushed her to give health a place in her product line as well.

Taste meets health, and how to order

Supriya's offerings also include fenugreek laddoos and madua (finger millet) laddoos, items that combine taste with health benefits. Anyone wanting to order her products can simply search for Home Flavours on Swiggy or Zomato, after which every available option will appear on their screen, and the order will be delivered straight to their home.
