Two separate incidents of fatal domestic violence have been reported from Sivaganga district in Tamil Nadu, resulting in the deaths of two women following arguments over household matters and money for alcohol. In both cases, local law enforcement agencies moved swiftly to apprehend the accused husbands and initiate formal legal proceedings. The tragic occurrences have highlighted the devastating impact of domestic conflicts and substance abuse within the region.
Fatality Following Dispute Over Stale Food
The first incident occurred in the Puduvayal area under the Kottaiyur locality near Karaikudi town in Sivaganga district. According to preliminary findings, 35-year-old Prashanth, a daily wage laborer who had previously divorced his first wife, was residing with his second wife, 42-year-old Uyammal. Authorities noted that the couple experienced frequent altercations over various domestic issues prior to the tragic event.
On Wednesday afternoon, tension escalated when Uyammal served stale rice to Prashanth for lunch. Incensed by the meal, Prashanth engaged in a heated argument with his wife, which quickly turned physically aggressive. During the scuffle, Prashanth violently pushed Uyammal, causing her to fall heavily onto the hard floor. Her head struck the ground with considerable force, causing fatal injuries that resulted in her death on the spot.
Upon receiving notification of the violence, police personnel from the Sakkottai police station arrived at the scene to secure the area. The officers took custody of Uyammal's body and subsequently dispatched it to the Karaikudi Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Law enforcement officers promptly placed Prashanth under arrest as further investigation into the homicide continues.
Tragedy Following Release on Bail
The second fatal incident transpired in Sottathatti village, located near Tiruppuvanam in Sivaganga district. The accused in this case, 29-year-old daily wage laborer Yogaraja, had been incarcerated in connection with a previous criminal case and was released on bail on Tuesday. Within twenty-four hours of returning home, a deadly confrontation unfolded between Yogaraja and his 25-year-old wife, Pandichelvi.
On Wednesday, Yogaraja demanded money from Pandichelvi to purchase alcohol. When Pandichelvi refused to provide the requested funds, an argument broke out between the couple. Enraged by her refusal, Yogaraja produced a sharp weapon and launched a violent attack against his wife. The severity of the wounds inflicted during the assault caused Pandichelvi to succumb to her injuries instantly at the scene.
Following information from local residents, officers from the Tiruppuvanam police station dispatched a team to Sottathatti village. Police detained Yogaraja at the location, registered a formal case of murder, and commenced detailed forensic and investigative procedures to establish the complete sequence of events.
