A sharp political confrontation has erupted between the ruling party and the opposition over the quality of road construction work in the Tilak Nagar area of Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party has raised serious doubts regarding the durability and standards of the ongoing infrastructure project, while the governing Bharatiya Janata Party has accused the opposition of deliberately obstructing public development works. The controversy intensified following an earlier inspection visit to Tilak Nagar by PWD Minister Parvesh Verma, during which a scuffle broke out between the minister and a 22-year-old local youth, triggering accusations that the minister had allegedly slapped the young man.
Sledgehammer test on newly laid road sparks political storm
The political row escalated further when BJP MLA Ravinder Singh Negi intervened in the matter, taking the confrontation directly to the contested street. A video featuring the lawmaker began circulating widely, showing him standing on the road armed with a heavy sledgehammer. In an apparent attempt to physically demonstrate the solidity of the newly laid asphalt, the legislator was seen repeatedly striking the surface with the heavy tool while directing sharp criticism at Arvind Kejriwal and other opposition figures for engaging in theatrics.
During the incident recorded on camera, the BJP MLA openly challenged the opposition, daring them to face him directly on the ground. Striking the road with the large hammer, he asserted that AAP leaders were creating unnecessary drama after failing to deliver substantial development during their own 15-year tenure. He maintained that now that tangible construction work was finally being executed for the public, the opposition had resorted to creating needless hindrances.
Allegations of misleading the public and shielding misconduct
Continuing his sharp verbal attack while striking the asphalt, MLA Ravinder Singh Negi accused Arvind Kejriwal and his party colleagues of systematically lying to the residents of Delhi. The lawmaker alleged that the opposition leadership was actively protecting an unruly individual who had verbally abused a sitting minister during the official inspection. Negi emphasized that the BJP administration had built this crucial road after a gap of 15 years, arguing that the opposition was creating political spectacles simply because they could not digest actual developmental progress on the ground.
Opposition demands criminal case against minister and third-party audit
Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party has mounted an aggressive counter-offensive regarding the alleged assault on the 22-year-old youth. The party has demanded that the authorities immediately register a formal First Information Report against PWD Minister Parvesh Verma over the slapping allegation, warning that it will move the court if the police fail to initiate legal action against the minister.
Saurabh Bharadwaj, the Delhi state president of the Aam Aadmi Party, strongly criticized the law enforcement response, alleging that the Delhi Police, rather than acting against the minister, was targeting AAP workers by booking them in cases to intimidate the opposition. In addition to demanding legal action against the minister, AAP has called for an independent, comprehensive audit of the Tilak Nagar road construction project by an autonomous agency to objectively verify the structural integrity and quality of the materials used in the public work.
