Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami recently suffered a fall after losing his balance during a field inspection of a road project. The entire sequence of events was caught on camera, and the footage has since circulated widely. The Chief Minister was visiting the site to personally review the construction progress of the Amritpur bypass, a project aimed at easing severe traffic jams for locals and tourists during peak tourism seasons and weekends.
The Inspection and the Mishap
During the visit, the inspection path presented difficult terrain as parts of the road remained unpaved and rugged. The ground was uneven, and loose stones were scattered across the pathway. While navigating this difficult stretch, the Chief Minister suddenly stumbled, lost his footing, and fell to the ground. The moment was captured on video, drawing widespread attention online.
Funding and Project Prioritization
The primary purpose of the Chief Minister's visit was to evaluate the ongoing work on the Amritpur bypass project. Pushkar Singh Dhami directed officials to expedite the construction on a top-priority basis and ensure it reaches completion within the designated timeframe. He emphasized that there would be no shortage of funds for the project, noting that the required financial allocations have already been approved to prevent any delays or obstacles.
Relieving Traffic Congestion
The Amritpur bypass project is strategically designed to alleviate heavy traffic congestion on routes leading toward Kainchi Dham in the Kumaon region. This corridor frequently experiences massive gridlocks, particularly during tourist seasons and holidays, making the new bypass a critical infrastructure upgrade. The Chief Minister noted that over the past few years, the influx of devotees visiting Baba Neem Karoli has increased exponentially.
Managing Tourism Growth
Popular hill destinations such as Nainital, Ranikhet, Kausani, Pithoragarh, Almora, and Bageshwar have witnessed a massive surge in tourist arrivals. While welcoming this growth as a positive sign for the state, the Chief Minister acknowledged that managing the corresponding rise in traffic poses a significant logistical challenge. To address this, the administration is aggressively overhauling and upgrading the regional road network.
Strict Safety and Quality Standards
While reviewing the site, the Chief Minister instructed officials to strictly adhere to safety protocols during road cutting operations, reiterating that public safety remains paramount. He also stressed the importance of maintaining high construction standards and warned that zero tolerance would be maintained against any negligence. The state government continues its push to strengthen foundational infrastructure and ensure seamless connectivity across the region.
