A sharp political dispute has broken out across Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand following the widespread circulation of a video clip featuring Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on social media platforms. In the video circulating online, the opposition leader is purportedly heard alleging that the biggest infiltrators residing inside Uttar Pradesh are people originating from Uttarakhand. The clip has triggered intense debate across digital networks, drawing severe criticism from political opponents as well as internet users targeting the Samajwadi Party president over the remark.
Defense of State Pride and Cultural Legacy
Reacting with strong displeasure on Saturday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched a comprehensive rebuttal against the alleged remarks. Emphasizing the cultural and patriotic heritage of the hill state, Dhami stated that Uttarakhand is renowned not only as a sacred land of spiritual figures but also as a cradle of brave soldiers who have consistently dedicated their lives to national defense and public service. He remarked that branding the honorable residents of Uttarakhand as infiltrators constitutes a direct insult to their dignity, cultural pride, and historical struggles.
Recalling the Rampur Tiraha Firing Incident
Sharpening his criticism, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami invoked the tenure of Akhilesh Yadav's father, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. Dhami asserted that the people of Uttarakhand have not forgotten the painful chapter in Muzaffarnagar when peaceful agitators advocating for a separate hill state were subjected to police gunfire at the Rampur Tiraha intersection under Mulayam Singh Yadav's administration. Dhami pointed out the historical irony, stating that while bullets were fired at statehood activists during the father's governance, the son is now labeling the very same community as infiltrators within Uttar Pradesh. He maintained that the sacrifices and enduring hardships borne by the people during the statehood movement remain deeply etched in public memory.
Questions Aimed at the Congress Alliance
Expanding the scope of his offensive, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami turned his scrutiny toward the Congress party, highlighting its political partnership with the Samajwadi Party. Dhami publicly questioned whether Congress endorses the derogatory characterization made by its ally regarding the residents of the hill state. He demanded that Congress clarify its official position to the electorate of Uttarakhand and state clearly whether it considers such language against the people of the state acceptable or whether it intends to condemn the remarks.
Digital Debate and Political Repercussions
The viral footage has triggered extensive deliberations across multiple communication channels, intensifying interstate political friction between key leaders. While ruling party representatives have framed the controversy as an assault on regional respect, public discourse continues to center on the context of the clip and its broader implications for political alignments across both northern states.
