The Election Commission of India has formally approved a revised timeline for the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists across Tripura, establishing January 1, 2027, as the qualifying date for the rolls.
Background and Request for Deferral
The adjustment in the schedule comes following a formal appeal by the Tripura Chief Electoral Officer. The officer had requested the postponement to accommodate the 2026 General Elections slated for all Village Committee constituencies falling under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.
Preparation and Verification Phase
Under the updated framework, administrative preparations, official training sessions, and the printing of documents are scheduled to take place from October 27 to November 5, 2026. This preparatory phase will be followed by the critical house-to-house verification drive, which runs from November 6 to December 5, 2026. During this window, Booth Level Officers will visit residential properties directly to authenticate voter particulars at the grassroots level.
Objectives of the Exercise
The primary aim of this extensive drive is to guarantee that every citizen's information is meticulously authenticated. It also seeks to identify and rectify any errors, discrepancies, or database inconsistencies through established regulatory channels.
Polling Station Rationalisation and Draft Roll
Alongside field verification, the rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations must be finalised by December 5. The draft electoral roll is then officially slated for publication on December 12, 2026.
Claims, Objections, and Final Publication
Citizens will have the opportunity to file claims and objections regarding the draft rolls from December 12, 2026, through January 10, 2027. The notification phase and the formal disposal of all submitted claims and objections will proceed until February 9, 2027. The entire revised revision process will officially conclude with the publication of the final electoral roll on February 15, 2027.
