Tripura Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb has actively put forward the state's pressing developmental concerns during the parliamentary session. Out of 57 questions submitted by him regarding various state issues, 15 were formally admitted for parliamentary discussion. Speaking to media persons on Sunday, the lawmaker detailed his legislative interventions and outlined strategies for long-term growth across infrastructure, tourism, and civic welfare in Tripura.
Addressing Highway Conditions and Proposing Concrete Roads
The condition of national highways remained a top priority in parliamentary discussions, particularly following the heavy flood damage experienced in 2024. Biplab Kumar Deb pointed out that inadequate maintenance and contractor negligence played a significant role in deteriorating key road stretches across the state. To build resilient infrastructure, he advocated replacing traditional bitumen surfaces with long-lasting concrete construction. As a practical demonstration, he proposed implementing a pilot concrete road project along the Udaipur to Amarpur stretch, highlighting that despite higher initial construction costs, concrete roads offer far superior durability against weather hazards.
MPLADS Fund Utilization and Direct Citizen Relief
Highlighting the execution of development works through his parliamentary allocations, the MP stated that Rs 15.76 crore has been utilized under the MPLADS scheme across his tenures in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. Furthermore, addressing immediate public needs, 24 individual beneficiaries from Tripura received a cumulative financial assistance of Rs 56.90 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) following his official recommendations.
Boosting Tourism Infrastructure and Unakoti Master Plan
Stressing that tourism expansion can drive local employment and strengthen the regional economy, the MP highlighted several major project proposals. Tourism development projects valued at Rs 30 crore have been proposed for sites in Daityeshwari Kalibari, Belonia, and Jolaibari. Additionally, a comprehensive Rs 140 crore development plan was submitted for Majlishpur in Jirania. For the famous historical site of Unakoti, Biplab Kumar Deb called for a holistic master plan rather than restricting efforts solely to cleaning and preserving the ancient rock-cut sculptures. He emphasized adding modern visitor amenities such as secure boundary walls, cafeterias, sanitation facilities, enhanced road connectivity, and updated conservation tech.
Broader Parliamentary Priorities and Central Coordination
Beyond roads and heritage sites, parliamentary questions submitted by the MP encompassed vital sectors including railway expansion, educational facilities, fertilizer distribution, natural gas extraction, mineral resource management, and fisheries development. He also noted key legislative work completed during the session, including amendments to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA). The MP reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining close coordination with both the Central government and the Tripura state administration to expedite pending development works across the region.
