Popular television couple Debina Bonnerjee and Gurmeet Choudhary have embarked on a new professional venture by expanding from acting into film production. Debina Bonnerjee is making her debut as a film producer with the upcoming romantic drama titled Tum Mere Ho. Explaining the origins of this transition, Debina Bonnerjee stated that the entire concept of creating their own feature film originated with her husband, Gurmeet Choudhary, while she stepped in to support and execute his creative vision.
The Launch of Debguru Films and Debut Project
To pursue their independent cinematic ambitions, the duo collaborated to establish their own production company, named Debguru Films. Their inaugural venture, Tum Mere Ho, has been produced under this banner and is now ready for its official release. Discussing the rationale behind setting up their own banner, Debina Bonnerjee explained that Gurmeet Choudhary wanted to work strictly on his own terms. Consequently, both of them decided to take full creative charge by financing and producing their own films rather than relying on outside offers.
Seeking a Pure Romantic Script Beyond Heavy Action
The thought of producing a film had been developing in Gurmeet Choudhary's mind for a significant period. According to Debina Bonnerjee, he felt restless because he possessed a very clear vision regarding the exact style of love story he wished to bring to the screen. While Gurmeet Choudhary is an accomplished romantic hero, the roles offered to him across OTT platforms and other mediums were predominantly saturated with action sequences. Although he enjoys performing action, he also has a distinct, expressive romantic side as an actor. When scripts matching his artistic preferences failed to arrive from external sources, he resolved to take matters into his own hands and create the project himself.
Navigating the Operational Divide Between Acting and Producing
Reflecting on her transition behind the camera, Debina Bonnerjee highlighted the stark contrast between acting in front of the lens and managing an entire production. She pointed out that an actor is tasked solely with preparing for their specific character and delivering their performance, after which their workday concludes once scenes are wrapped. In contrast, a producer bears continuous responsibility for managing every operational element across the film set. This spectrum of work involves overseeing the initial script development, managing overall financial budgets, securing shooting locations, coordinating artists' schedules, and supervising wardrobe selections. Whenever unexpected issues emerge during shooting schedules, the producer must step forward immediately to resolve them.
