The alleged theft of donations made to the Shri Ram temple in Ayodhya has now moved into the realm of formal legal action. Police have registered an FIR against a total of eight people in the matter. The case was lodged on a complaint by Krishna Mohan, a member of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust, and the step was taken only after an initial probe into the affair.
The FIR was filed by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust on the basis of recommendations made in the SIT's preliminary report. The complainant, Krishna Mohan, is himself a member of the trust, a detail that has put the case further into the spotlight.
Who Is Named in the FIR
The FIR names Champat Tinnu Yadav, Lavkush Mishra, Anukalp Mishra, Avinash Shukla and Manish Yadav. Several other names have also been added to it. On the directions of the Uttar Pradesh government, the complaint has been registered under sections 306, 316(5), 317(4), 317(5), 6 and 13(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Who Is the Complainant, Krishna Mohan
Krishna Mohan, a member of the Ram temple trust, is a retired officer of the Indian Forest Service (IFS) and is now associated with social-service organisations. He was nominated to the trust only last year, taking the place of the late Kameshwar Chaupal. Like Chaupal, he too belongs to the Scheduled Caste community.
Krishna Mohan completed his MSc from Lucknow University in 1970 and went on to spend about five to six years researching in the field of atomic energy. In 1978 he was selected for the Maharashtra cadre of the Indian Forest Service. After retiring in 2012, he returned to Hardoi and has been involved in social work ever since.
Krishna Mohan is also a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He hails originally from Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh. With the FIR now out in the Ram temple donation theft case, his name is once again in the headlines.
What Lies Ahead
According to information available, the SIT's initial report names a total of eight people, while several other names are also included. On the basis of this report, the case was registered at the Kotwali Ramjanmabhoomi police station. The FIR was lodged on the recommendation of the Yogi government.
