The crackdown by law enforcement agencies against cattle smugglers in Uttar Pradesh continues to intensify, yielding a significant breakthrough for the Bahraich police. An armed confrontation took place between the local police and suspects involved in cow slaughter late Sunday night at around one o'clock within the jurisdiction of the Motipur police station area in Uttar Pradesh. During the exchange of fire, one of the suspects suffered a bullet injury to his right leg, while his two companions were successfully apprehended on the spot. The injured suspect was promptly rushed to a hospital for medical treatment. According to police records, several prior cases related to cow slaughter are already registered against the wounded individual.

Delving into the background of the case, an FIR numbered 418/2026 was registered at the Motipur police station on September 24 after remains of cattle were discovered in Shahpur Khurd. To crack the case and apprehend the culprits, Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Srivastava had constituted three dedicated teams. Late Sunday night, law enforcement received concrete information that the suspects were planning to execute another cow slaughter incident. Acting on this tip-off, police teams were conducting a vehicle-checking drive along the Jognia Barrage route. During the operation, three young men riding a single motorcycle approached the checkpoint. When officers signaled them to stop, the individuals instead opened fire on the police party. In retaliatory action, police gunfire struck one of the suspects in the leg.
Senior officials visit the spot and recovery of illicit items
Upon receiving news of the shootout, Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Srivastava, Additional Superintendent of Police Durga Prasad Tiwari, and Ayush Vikram Singh rushed to the location to assess the situation. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sonu, a resident of Balapur; Shehzad alias Kalute, a resident of Uchwa Balapur; and another Sonu, a resident of Khairi. Authorities recovered one country-made pistol, live cartridges, Rs 1940 in cash, a motorcycle, weighing scales and weights, a wooden block, and three knives from their possession. Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Srivastava stated that the injured suspect is currently receiving medical care and that all three arrested individuals have previous cases of cow slaughter registered against them. Further legal proceedings are actively underway, and officials have emphasized that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in such unlawful activities.
