A major train accident was avoided in the Amethi district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday morning. At around 5:00 AM on July 25, seven wagons of a goods train carrying fertilizer derailed on the siding of the Indorama fertilizer unit near Sindurwa railway station. Fortunately, none of the derailed wagons overturned, and no casualties or injuries were reported from the scene. The loco pilot demonstrated quick reflexes by applying the brakes immediately, bringing the train to a halt before any major damage could occur. Upon receiving information about the derailment, teams from the railway's engineering and operations departments, along with the RPF, rushed to the spot.
Restoration Efforts and Impact on Operations
Following the incident, railway officials secured the affected area and initiated track restoration work. Due to the derailment, the siding track sustained significant damage, which in turn halted the movement of freight trains inside the Indorama facility. The loading of fertilizer from the industrial unit has also been temporarily suspended.
RPF Nihalgarh Sub-Inspector Ramesh Kumar and Station Superintendent Amit Kumar confirmed the incident. They stated that the movement of trains on this industrial siding will only resume once the repair work is completed and the track is deemed safe for operations. Technical teams are currently inspecting the alignment of the tracks to identify the structural damage.
Loco Pilot's Swift Action Prevents Disaster
According to reports from the site, the goods train suddenly lost control and went off balance as it approached the Indorama siding, leading to the derailment of its seven wagons. The low speed of the train at the time of the incident played a crucial role in preventing a catastrophic event. Because the train was moving slowly, the loco pilot did not face major difficulty in bringing it under control and managed to apply the emergency brakes in time. The railway administration has ordered a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause behind the derailment, looking into potential technical faults or track issues.
Similar Derailment in Ghaziabad Recalled
This incident comes closely on the heels of a similar derailment that occurred recently on the busy Ghaziabad and New Delhi railway route. In that previous instance, six wagons of a loaded goods train had jumped the tracks. While that mishap also resulted in no casualties, it caused massive disruption to the movement of passenger and freight trains because it occurred during the busy morning hours.
To manage the blockages caused by the Ghaziabad derailment, the railway administration had to implement extensive traffic diversions. A total of 24 trains had to be rerouted through alternative paths via Delhi and New Delhi to keep passenger services active and resolve the backlog.
