Authorities in Uttarakhand popular tourist destination Nainital have intensified enforcement against violations involving commercial two-wheelers and rental bikes. Visitors touring the hill station frequently rely on hired motorcycles and scooters to explore regional attractions, but mounting disregard for transport rules has prompted direct administrative intervention. Following directives issued by the Nainital Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), district law enforcement launched an intensive drive, issuing traffic challans to 258 two-wheelers and confiscating 73 vehicles for various non-compliance offenses. Officials stated that arbitrary violations on public roads will face immediate action.
Stricter Conditions for Yellow Plate Two-Wheelers
Police have instituted specific operational standards for two-wheelers registered with commercial yellow number plates across the district. Under the updated protocols, tourists are not permitted to operate yellow-plate taxi bikes independently; instead, the vehicle must be accompanied by an authorized commercial rider. Related regional traffic measures, including curbs affecting two-wheelers heading toward destinations such as Kainchi Dham, are also being monitored to prevent severe road congestion and maintain traveler safety on narrow hill corridors.
Drive Against Unauthorized Commercial Renting
Law enforcement is targeting operators who rent out two-wheelers without securing official commercial rental permits from transport authorities. Officials emphasized that merely affixing a yellow commercial plate is insufficient, as valid operating permissions and complete documentation are strictly mandatory. Owners providing private two-wheelers on rent without statutory clearances now face vehicle seizure and formal proceedings. The compliance drive continues to monitor school vans, passenger taxis, and commercial motorcycle services to ensure complete alignment with regional transport safety norms.
