Following directives from Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nand, prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been enforced across the Bowbazar police station jurisdiction. The restrictions will remain in effect from October 18, 2026, through October 20, 2026.
Key Restrictions Enforced Under Section 163
To prevent potential violence and preserve public peace, the police administration has imposed several restrictions across the specified locality
- Assembly Limitations: Gathering of five or more persons in public spaces is strictly prohibited throughout the designated period.
- Ban on Demonstrations: Organizing rallies, dharnas, processions, or public protests is entirely disallowed.
- Weapon Prohibition: Carrying lathis, sticks, or any form of dangerous weapons is banned.
- Disruption of Harmony: Any activity threatening public tranquility or communal harmony will face stern legal action.
Geographical Coverage of the Order
According to police authorities, the restriction covers the entire Bowbazar police station boundary. The affected zone is demarcated by major thoroughfares, including College Street, CR Avenue, Colootola Street, and Eden Hospital Road.
