West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari attended the inauguration of the Purba Medinipur district police Durga Puja on Friday night at Nimtouri in Tamluk. Addressing the gathering during the festive occasion, he focused on administrative responsibility, democratic leadership, and the core values that public servants must uphold while executing their duties.
Democratic Leadership and the Teachings of Swami Vivekananda
Highlighting that a political post does not elevate anyone above the general public, the Chief Minister remarked that a chief minister is merely an ordinary person without horns or a tail. He stated that holding a democratic office means representing the general populace, and his primary responsibility is to take everyone along on the path of progress. Reaffirming his governance approach, he noted that unity remains his guiding principle.
Invoking the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda, he stressed that individuals must replace the egoistic mindset of 'I' with the collective spirit of 'we'. He criticized political rivals by pointing out that those who surrendered to arrogance and placed personal pride ahead of the collective good have vanished into complete political oblivion, with no visibility left in public memory.
Balancing Administrative Discipline with Empathy for Police Personnel
Shifting focus to law enforcement, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari underlined the importance of maintaining high morale across the police department. He noted that genuine professional performance comes from contentment, explaining that intimidation alone fails to produce results. While discipline remains a cornerstone of the force, it must be paired with genuine compassion and care.
Referring to the police establishment as an extended family, he remarked that attending their community celebration was natural if it brought joy to the personnel on duty. The inaugural ceremony at Nimtouri police lines saw the participation of several senior administrative figures alongside the Chief Minister, including District Magistrate Niranjan Kumar and Superintendent of Police Anshuman Saha.
