West Bengal Legislative Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata on Friday night following complaints of severe chest pain and acute uneasiness. The medical emergency arose shortly after he returned home from a series of official engagements at the state legislative assembly, prompting his family to seek immediate medical intervention.
Health Complications Emerged After Daylong Assembly Engagements
According to family sources, Rathindra Bose had maintained an extensive schedule throughout Friday, attending commemorative programs marking Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary alongside several other legislative events at the assembly premises. After returning to his residence in the evening, he suddenly developed intense chest discomfort and physical distress. Taking no chances, family members quickly shifted him to a healthcare facility located along the EM Bypass in eastern Kolkata.
Medical Evaluation Confirms Stable Condition Under Observation
Upon his arrival at the hospital, medical specialists conducted a battery of diagnostic examinations to evaluate his cardiac health and overall physical state. Legislative assembly officials later confirmed that his vital parameters are steady and his condition remains stable. Physicians have kept him under continuous observation to monitor his recovery and ensure complete medical assessment.
From Professional Chartered Accountant to Assembly Speaker
Before stepping into active electoral politics, Rathindra Bose practiced as a chartered accountant and maintained a long association of several years with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He entered parliamentary life by securing victory in the 2026 state assembly polls from the Cooch Behar South constituency on a BJP ticket, marking his maiden electoral triumph. Following the formation of the house, he was unanimously elected unopposed to the post of West Bengal Assembly Speaker.
