US President Donald Trump has revealed that he previously considered renaming the Atlantic Ocean, the world's second-largest ocean, to Trump Ocean. In pursuit of this idea, Trump spoke directly with Google CEO Sundar Pichai, requesting that Google Maps display the Atlantic Ocean under the new name. However, Sundar Pichai rejected the proposal, explaining that he could not make such a change because oceans span across multiple countries and should not be named after a single nation's leader.
Praise for Google leadership during the discussion
Trump shared this behind-the-scenes story during a rally in South Carolina, explaining how the conversation unfolded. He praised Sundar Pichai as a talented individual who leads the entire Google company, while also mentioning Google co-founder Sergey Brin as exceptionally bright. Discussing his previous decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, Trump noted that he remains preoccupied with geographical nomenclature before asking Pichai if the ocean renaming was feasible.
Obstacles raised by the Google CEO
Recalling Pichai's reaction, Donald Trump stated that the Google CEO pointed out that oceans are different because they touch numerous nations. Pichai urged him not to pursue the concept further, leading Trump to concede that he would likely abandon the notion. While he has shelved the Atlantic renaming plan following this exchange, Trump also mentioned at the rally that he would like to rename the Pacific Ocean to the American Ocean, though he clarified he has no plans to rename any other oceans given their unique connection to the United States. Meanwhile, Trump recently claimed that the war with Iran will end very soon.
