Festive celebrations turned into mourning in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, following a harrowing workplace accident at a community kitchen. A woman assisting with cooking preparations for a Vinayaka Chavithi charitable feast slipped and fell into a massive pot filled with scalding hot sambar. Despite immediate hospitalization and intensive medical attention, she succumbed to extensive burn trauma the following day.
Fatal Kitchen Mishap During Food Distribution Preparations
The unfortunate incident took place on Sunday morning in the KL Rao Nagar locality, situated within Vijayawada's 1 Town area. In honor of Vinayaka Chavithi celebrations, volunteers had organized an extensive annadanam food donation drive. Sujatha, a 46-year-old local resident of KL Rao Nagar, had volunteered to help manage the cooking operations for the large gathering. While carrying hot sambar across the preparation area, she lost her footing and accidentally plunged into a deep, open container containing boiling sambar.
Hospitalization and Subsequent Death from Severe Burns
Onlookers and event coordinators rushed to her immediate aid upon hearing her cries, pulling her out of the hot liquid and arranging rapid transport to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Medical evaluations revealed that her entire body had sustained critical and widespread burn injuries. Despite emergency medical interventions, her physical condition deteriorated rapidly, and she passed away on Monday morning while under care.
Police Investigation Initiated into Safety Measures
The untimely demise has devastated Sujatha's family and cast a heavy pall of sorrow over the festive atmosphere in the neighborhood. Following notification of the tragedy, the Vijayawada 2 Town police registered a formal case. Law enforcement personnel have initiated an active inquiry into the sequence of events leading to the fatal fall and are examining safety protocols at the temporary cooking facility.
