Search and rescue operations in Nepal have entered their ninth day following a catastrophic flood disaster that has devastated multiple regions. Emergency workers continue to recover bodies from under thick layers of mud and debris, pushing the total death toll past 1,250. Teams from the Nepal Army and Police are leading ground search efforts, while an expert rescue unit from the Indian Army is actively working to extract individuals trapped inside a submerged hydropower project tunnel.
District-Wise Breakdown of Recovered Victims
According to an official bulletin issued at 12:00 PM by the National Disaster Management Authority, a total of 1,252 bodies have been recovered from flood-affected areas so far. The flooding caused extensive destruction across the Bhote Koshi region in Rasuwa district and surrounding areas. Data provided by the authority confirms that Chitwan district has recorded the highest number of fatalities, with 355 bodies recovered. Furthermore, 218 bodies were found in Navalparasi East, 208 in Navalparasi West, 177 in Nuwakot, 127 in Rasuwa, 69 in Gorkha, 60 in Dhading, and 38 in Tanahun.
Thousands Remaining Missing as Evacuations Progress
The Disaster Management Authority further highlighted that 4,875 individuals remain unaccounted for following the deluge, with communication links severely disrupted. Rescue personnel are navigating hazardous conditions, landslide debris, and turbulent waters to locate missing residents. On a positive note, emergency teams have successfully rescued and evacuated 11,993 people to safety. Specialized operations inside the trapped hydropower project tunnel remain ongoing as international and local responders work against time.
